Phase Design! The unsung hero of the indecisive client, the budget savvy client, and sometimes the visionary challenged client!

Reimagining the home is a challenge for some clients. When it's time to remodel, freshen up a space or new construction, for some reason clients try to shoulder the burden of design. They try to hold themselves accountable for things that they can not imagine or execute. They have looming anxiety about deciding on the best options and products (TONS of options) in which they were not trained in or have no knowledge about. Dear client, it is NOT your burden to bear... and there is NOTHING wrong with you if you can't "see it" as a whole, or if you have no idea where to start! Let that sh*t go! The same is true really for any profession really, not just design. I mean, I'm not a doctor, or a mechanic, or a lawyer, or a Human Resources professional... I have no idea how any of those things work, and I can't be upset about it, or expect to have the answers, right?

It doesn't matter if you are working with a designer or not. Sometimes, what I have found is that occasionally the "whole project" all at once can be over whelming for folks. And, in that instance it is best to incorporate aggressive "phase design". I've talked about it before, but I bring it up again because frankly, the longer you wait on a project or idea, or what have you... it usually costs you more money, more time and more stress. (Money you say?!?! In what way?)

This way...

FUN FACT: Did you know that basically all manufacturer's of furniture, home accessories, fabrics, wallpapers, have annual price increases that typically go into effect twice a year, coinciding with the spring and fall Highpoint Furniture Markets? What is "Market"? It's like fashion week, but for home furnishings and accessories, lighting area rugs, etc... where everyone unveils their new products, styles, fabrics, finishes and price lists, ha ha!... the list goes on and on!

Instead of aimlessly firing darts at your project, hoping that something will stick... COMMIT to finishing (TO COMPLETION ! ) one room at a time if need be! There is nothing wrong with this process! Some times this is the best way to feel accomplished, to see the fruits of all of your focus and dedication, and also to give yourself peace of mind and inspiration for implementing your personal style in other areas of the home. It means critically picking apart everything that you need to do and committing to finishing it, but doing it in phases... and WITH a timeline. It's kind of a game changer for some. The age old saying comes to mind: "What's the best way to eat an elephant? ...one bite at a time". I'm just advocating for you to finish eating the whole thing! Ha ha ha!

This process should be fun! It should be exciting! However, it should be structured and it should be organized and regulated... and absolutely taken seriously because it is your time, sanity and dollars at stake. (Stay tuned, more about that and how successful, efficient Interior Designers go about the design process to come in the near future!)

If a home or room is unfinished or unbalanced it really does create an unnerving imbalance in your life that people don't talk about or realize. A weird silent, constant reminder of what you didn't get finished or what feels wrong, staring at you daily. While on the other hand, the payoff of a completed space offers the peace, pride and calm that you just can't put a price tag on!
